The portulaca is a succulent plant that does amazingly well in dry conditions. It is a low-growing annual plant with semi-double to full double flowers that look like mini-rose. Very hardy, low water requirements, can be exposed to winds, will grow in poor sandy soil and even pockets of stacked stone walls. Flowers close at night and on very cloudy days.
